Watch out! There’s a dragon about!

The Porta del Drac (Dragon’s Gate) used to be the private entrance for the Güell family to their estate, in what is now the northern part of Barcelona.
Redesigning the entrance to the estate was the first commission awarded by wealthy industrialist, Count Eusebi Güell, to Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi. This was in 1884, after which Count Güell went on to become Gaudi’s main patron.
On the wrought-iron gate sprawls the dragon who guarded the Garden of the Hesperides in Greek mythology; the dragon who was defeated by Hercules as one of his Twelve Labours.

Too give you an idea of its size, here is a person (me) of average height posing in front of it:

They just don’t make gates like this any more – well not where I live anyway!
Thanks to Cee for this week’s B&W Challenge: Fences and Gates.
